There are many electrical outlets selling frost watch heaters. Unless the salesperson has details of your attic he/she cant properly size a correct heater and therefore the heating system may not work or could end up been on all the time which is expensive. Many of these frost watch heaters that you see are just to be left beside the water tank and that is the only area that the heaters will heat.
Our heating system comes with our innovative design of a warning light so as our clients are aware when the heating device is operating in their attic without having to go to the trouble of going up to their attic, i.e. light on = heater on & light off = heater off. This warning light will be placed in an area where it is visible to our client’s so they will know when the temperature has dropped below the preset level in the attic. The “Atticstat” like all our electrical systems meet the appropriate industry safety and standards.
Unless the home has insulation at the rafter level, it will be difficult to heat up the attic space and hard to design the amount of heat required to keep pipes and tanks from freezing.
Once the system is operating and the temperature in the attic drops below a pre set level then the atticstat will activate the heating system which will heat up the enclosed area. We have designed a frost stat on a lead to be used in the attic or around a vacant house. It can also be used in a pump-house. The stat is fitted on a lead so that the stat is not adjacent to the heat source. For example, in an attic the frost stat can be fitted 3-4m away from the frost watcher heater, meaning the area around the tank will be heated before the thermostat cuts off the heater. It should be noted that only certain heaters are suitable for being operated in conjunction with the attic-stat.
At the moment we offer supply only for the atticstat. If you choose to purchase our products and fit them yourself we will provide technical assistance. It is necessary that all electrical work is undertaken by a suitably qualified person. We are currently carrying out testing to check the optimum use of stats and back-up heaters in the attic and other rooms. Further information will be provided in 2012 following testing.
The advantages of this method are that the pipes remain above freezing level as well as reducing heat loss from the dwelling. The client is aware that the temperature has dropped below the preset level and will know when the temperature has gone above the preset level once the warning light has been deactivated.
Most attics in Ireland have no proper access and lighting. How often have you tried to gain access to your attic using unsuitable ladders, and then trying to navigate your way using flash lamps. There are also many ceilings in Ireland who have had an accidental foot placed through them. Our way to rectify this problem is by providing suitable access and lighting to the attic and as part of our works we will floor out an area to enable access to the water tanks in the attic. Any improvement works carried out will add value to your home and should not be looked at as an expense but a long term saving.
